　　Were是虛擬語(yǔ)氣，我們通常用一般過去時(shí)態(tài)表示和現(xiàn)在的事實(shí)相反的一種假設(shè)。(但是BE動(dòng)詞的過去時(shí)在這種虛擬中總是用WERE。)

　　E.g. If I had the amount of money, I would take a tour around the world.

　　If I were the king, I would save all the people out of hunger.

　　I wish I were a bird.

　　If only I were together with my friends now, but I am too busy to take part in the party.

　　虛擬語(yǔ)氣

　　虛擬語(yǔ)氣用來(lái)表示不可能發(fā)生或者可能性不大的事情，有時(shí)用來(lái)表示一種理想或者愿望。

　　1.由wish 引導(dǎo)的表示愿望的虛擬語(yǔ)氣，具體用法如下：

　　(1)wish 表示對(duì)現(xiàn)在的愿望時(shí)，他所引導(dǎo)的賓語(yǔ)從句中謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞形式為：過去式：(be動(dòng)詞用were) 如：

　　E.g. I wish I finished my homework already. 我希望我已經(jīng)完成功課了。

　　I wish I were the president of the united states.

　　(2)wish 表示將來(lái)的愿望時(shí)，他所引導(dǎo)的賓語(yǔ)從句中謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞形式為：would，could，might，+ 動(dòng)詞原形。如：

　　E.g. I wish I could be a bird.

　　(3)wish 用于表示對(duì)過去已經(jīng)發(fā)生事實(shí)的一種已不可能實(shí)現(xiàn)的愿望時(shí)，賓語(yǔ)從句的謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞形式為：had +動(dòng)詞過去分詞 或 could/would +have+動(dòng)詞過去分詞。如：

　　E.g. I wish I had passed the examination.

　　I wish I have done it.

　　2.had hoped 后的賓語(yǔ)從句中的謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞形式為：would+動(dòng)詞原形，表示過去未實(shí)現(xiàn)的愿望或令人失望的事情。如：

　　E.g. I had hoped he would forgive me.

　　I had hoped we could overcome that difficulty in the end.

　　3.would (had)rather，would as soon，would sooner 和would prefer所引導(dǎo)的從句中要用過去式，表示現(xiàn)在或?qū)��?lái)的情況，用過去完成時(shí)表示過去的情況，表達(dá)希望或婉轉(zhuǎn)的責(zé)備。

　　E.g. would prefer she didn’t spend too much money on her holiday.

　　I would rather you come to my apartment at once.

　　4.在表示絕對(duì)不可能的情況時(shí)，通常會(huì)遇到這樣一個(gè)句型：If I were you…

　　E.g. If I were you, I will choose to be a teacher in the future.

　　5.It’s high time that… 是該到的時(shí)候了。該句型中的從句要使用虛擬語(yǔ)氣，也就是動(dòng)詞要用過去式。

　　E.g. Its getting dark. It’s high time we left.

　　You have classes early tomorrow morning. So it is time that you went to bed.

　　2. popularity n. 流行，受歡迎

　　E.g. Now the new fashion style has gained much popularity.

　　3.controversial adj.有爭(zhēng)議的
