Should I Include a Cover Letter?
In the past, when people wanted to apply for a job they had to mail their resume to the company. There was no other means of communication, and in order to tell the company why they were sending the resume they included a letter. Now, resumes are accepted via e-mail, fax, or even online! Sometimes, people can find it difficult to know whether or not they should include a cover letter with their resume. The easy answer is that unless specifically asked not to send one, you should always include a cover letter.
A cover letter lets the recipient know why you are sending them your resume. Would you ever consider sending an e-mail with your resume attached and no message in the body? Hopefully not! What would you do if you got an e-mail with an attachment and no message. You'd probably delete it without ever reading the attachment; especially if you weren't expecting it.
